In the 1960s, the LGBTQ+ community found The Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York City, to be a favorite’s hangout. Police raided the club early on June 28, 1969, setting off a violent altercation that lasted many days. The riots that followed were a turning point in the history of LGBTQ+ rights, igniting a current movement .LGBTQ+ people frequently endure harassment, hostility, and violence at the hands of law enforcement and society at large; the raid on the Stonewall Inn was not an unusual instance. Nonetheless, the events at Stonewall were a turning point because the community began to rebel against the persecution and unfairness they were subjected to. The Stonewall Inn Riot is now remembered as the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, and its legacy can be seen in the progress made towards equality and acceptance in the decades since. It reminds us that the fight for equal rights is ongoing, and that even the smallest acts of resistance can spark a movement for change.
