For this piece of public history, I will be providing the historical and current context of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), which is located in Toronto, Ontario Canada. The Royal Ontario Museum, which opened its doors in 1914, exhibits works of art, cultural artefacts, and natural history from all around the world. ROM is home to a world-class collection of 13 million works of art, cultural artefacts, and specimens from natural history. ROM combines its old historical building with the modern Michael Lee-Chin Crystal by Daniel Libeskind. Furthermore, to provide a small contextual story of the museum, The Welcome Project, also known as the Helga and Mike Schmidt Performance Terrace and the Reed Family Plaza, gave visitors a new way to experience ROM on August 21, 2019. This initiative has been dubbed ROM.
